Why should you join the Mid Kent Legal Team
Reviews and comments from our staff
Being a recent recruit for Mid Kent Legal Services I found the busy team welcoming and the senior managers supportive and encouraging. They are always willing to share their knowledge and expertise, which has greatly enhanced my understanding of legal practices and their procedures.
The work I have been involved in is varied, which has not only broadened my skills but given me the confidence to progress further.
It feels very rewarding to work for the Service and flexible working enables me to keep a good work life balance which is important to me returning to work after a career break.
My time with Mid Kent Legal Services has been edifying both personally and professionally.
I started with MKLS on the Legal Support Team at the beginning of 2019 with the last year of my undergraduate degree in law still to complete. Due to the flexible work approach, I was able to finish my degree to a high standard, studying on a full time basis, whilst also working full time as a Legal Support Officer. I do not imagine this sort of flexibility is readily found in legal practice generally.
Since then, I have been seconded to the Planning Legal Team working as a fee earner on large complex matters, and in January of the new year (2025) I am due to start studying toward the SQE exams in order to become a qualified solicitor. The course will be entirely funded by MKLS and I will have time off in order to prepare; again, a level of support not easily found within the legal profession.
In short, as a workplace, MKLS has been hugely beneficial to me in a number of ways, and I know this sentiment is echoed across the Service by members of staff, junior and senior alike.
I have worked with MKLS since the Service first formed. I have been able to grow with the Partnership who supported me in my final qualifications which I went on to win an award for and now given the opportunity to continue to progress. I work across three authorities which allows me to gain a pool of experience in a wide range of matters gaining knowledge and experience in a highly varied workload. I contribute at all levels and in different areas of law which makes my job interesting, satisfying and never the same.
Through the years of working at MKLS I’ve had and have the pleasure of working with and learning alongside a number of experienced, kind and knowledgeable colleagues and clients. I am lucky enough to learn from, be fully supported by, gain a wealth of knowledge and guidance from a truly inspirational, supportive, caring, experienced and understanding Head of Service who always takes the time to help, guide and advise even where there are not enough hours in her day which are all the reasons I have remained with MKLS from the start to date and will continue to grow with the Service.
MKLS provides a varied, challenging and interesting working environment.
From negotiating and drafting multi-million pound contracts to offering advice on community-based projects, there are many opportunities to make a positive difference to the lives of the residents of three local boroughs and support clients across the full range of council service areas.
Every day is busy and requires support from team members, aided by maintaining strong relationships with clients.
Working at MKLS has been immensely rewarding and enriching experience.
From the moment I joined (over two years ago), the team were very supportive and friendly which enabled me to settle into my new role in a very short space of time. I sensed I was part of a very dedicated team of professionals who were very passionate about their work. I joined MKLS as a team leader and whilst attending the management meetings I felt the management were very forward thinking and actively looking to improve the service for better working practices, which was very encouraging to see.
I had left the service for 8 weeks to work for another Authority but have come back to work at MKLS as I thoroughly enjoyed working for a forward thinking and proactive service that strives to be the very best with the legal services we offer to our client. I feel I have excellent mentorship and support from my Head of Service who always supports the staff and encourages to bring diverse range of work to the service but also ensures we have adequate support in the team to deliver such services to our clients. This became even more apparent after leaving the service as to the amount of support we have with the Head of Service – I am glad to be back! I enjoy the diverse range of matters I have had the opportunity to work on, which has broadened my legal expertise and provided me with further well-rounded understanding of the type of services we need to provide to the three authorities.
MKLS provides a fantastic opportunity to progress your legal career.
Since joining MKLS in 2015, I have progressed from a Legal Assistant role to a Senior Lawyer role, all while pursuing my CILEx qualification with full support and funding from MKLS.
I work with an excellent, dedicated team, and my workload is incredibly varied.
